I had the priviledge of facilitating a managers retreat and then returned to Los Medanos College again for their professional development day. I covered how to use the 5E Learning Cycle of Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate. The 5E's is an instructional model based on the constructivist approach to learning, which says that learners build or construct new ideas on top of their old ideas
Los Medanos College faculty did a fantastic job creating their own 5E instructional plans for the classroom! But the 5E's are not just for faculty. Administrators and classified professionals also learned how to use the 5E's to structure presentations and workshops.
It's a privilege to coach Los Medanos College this year!

Quote Spotlights
This Hispanic Heritage Month, I want to share a pattern and why it keeps showing up. A K-12 longitudinal study found a 41% gain in student achievement. But Hispanic students gained 54%, especially Latinas. In higher education, the similar pattern showed up again. When I coached faculty with my Inquiry & Action process to examine and strengthen their own practice, a faculty team saw Hispanic student success jump from 51% to 75%. Female success went from 55% to 78%. Another team saw Hispanic success climb from 41% to 66% and female retention go up by 10 points.
Two different education systems. Two different decades. And here we go again, gains for Hispanic students. And Latinas, in particular, rose to the occasion.
